Snap, share on social media, and post to communities seem like a way of “show off” for most paddlers. A fancy board can add so much fun to a paddle trip. Therefore, paddlers not only pursue the performance of the board, but also wishing for a unique design.
We have received messages from paddlers saying “Why are your boards so different from others? Most brands on the market focuses on monotonous colours, such as blue, black, and white, which appears to be more athletic and professional.” To answer that question, we’ve put a list of reasons below.
To start with, paddle boarding was a niche sport when it first emerged. It was popular within professional players, who focused heavily on performance and race requirements. As paddle boarding has become popular in recent years, it is welcomed by the public. However, the board designs of many big brands are slow on fashion trend, rather biased toward solid colours in a sporty style.
Secondly, producing a fancy-looking board not only requires excellent design skills, but also outstanding printing technology. The most common ones are Silk Screen print and UV print. The brands decide whether they are willing to increase the printing and time cost. Statistics show that a skilled worker spends 3-5 times more time on a fully printed board than a solid colour board.
Therefore, you may find boards on the market with solid colour, back print, front print, EVA print, or full-size print. The larger the printing area, the more complex the pattern, therefore, the higher printing and time cost. On the contrary, its cost is lower.
Two boards with exact pattern can have a huge difference in terms of graphic quality. Other than skilled printing worker and expensive printer, printing speed and the ink is the key.
Printing speed?
Take UV printer as an example, it has different printing speed levels: 2 Pass, 3 Pass, 4 Pass, 6 Pass, and etc. In inkjet printing vocabulary, “Pass” refers to the number of times the screen needs to be printed (the number of masks per unit area). For instance, to print a 4 Pass image, each pixel needs to be divided into 4 mask prints to finish the print. Higher the Pass number, slower the printing speed, thus, better printing quality. The speed levels commonly seen in inkjet printers such as UV printers are 6 Pass and 4 Pass.
The number before Pass is the inkjet times required to complete the print. The displaying colours are different when different number of Pass are used. Pass is usually controllable on UV printers through RIP printing software or other available ones, for a perfect image print. The number of Pass is related to the precision of the print. Therefore, slower printing speed leads to better image quality, but also longer production time. On the contrary, faster printing speed means lower quality.
Printing Ink?
To be brief, better ink leads to brighter image and higher durability. In addition, the paddle board assembly during manufacture is still manual, which uses glue to stick layers together. Better ink will enhance the bond, while poor ink will increase the risk of glue cracking.
Long story short, making an eye-catching paddle board cost much more.

I picked your company specifically for the designs you offered. I was looking for Flamingo board that would make me smile as it if represents my girls group the Fab Five and our mascot is Flo the Flamingo. I looked through many Inflatable Boards and too many didn’t stand out or grab my attention. I wanted one that stood out on the water too. I just placed my very first order and I can not wait to get it! Thank you BJ
